Case Study 1: Global ERP Implementation

Challenge: Tasked with Project Managment for the Upstream program, we faced the complex task of overseeing a $300 million multi-vendor/country initiative aimed at standardizing business processes across this customers upstream segment. This ambitious program included the deployment of a new SAP solution to over 30 markets globally, encompassing SAP ECC, SRM, MDM, BW, and Maximo, along with integration with the company’s financial systems. Ensuring successful delivery amidst such diverse requirements and stakeholders presented significant challenges.

Response: In response to these challenges, we developed a comprehensive project execution plan covering key aspects such as objectives, scope, budget, roles and responsibilities, work breakdown structure (WBS), risks and issues, business impact, and benefits realization. We led the requirements gathering process, facilitating effective communication and traceability between business and technical teams to ensure alignment and accountability. Additionally, we chaired status meetings across the program, engaging senior stakeholders and global sub-teams to foster collaboration and transparency. We then oversaw the implementation and testing phases with stakeholder support from the business. Finally, we transitioned the entire solution into steady state operations, including training and onboarding users.

Outcomes: Our efforts resulted in the successful delivery of the SAP components of the program for 12 markets across the globe, contributing to the overall standardization and efficiency of business processes within this customers upstream segment. By leveraging industry setting project management processes and methodologies, we ensured adherence to gate entry/exit requirements, mitigating risks and ensuring project alignment with organizational objectives. Furthermore, through rigorous Risk and Issue Management, we directly resolved accountability issues, enabling smoother project execution and timely resolution of challenges. Overall, our leadership and strategic approach facilitated the seamless implementation of the Upstream program, demonstrating our ability to drive complex initiatives to successful outcomes.
